About #TIES17

The TIES 2017 Education Technology Conference will take place at the Hyatt Regency Minneapolis December 9-12, 2017. Over the course of four days, attendees will have access to information and resources covering hundreds of educational technology-related topics. Presenters have hands-on experience with the subjects they address and attendees will leave ready to hit the ground running with students and staff. From Makerspaces and Google apps to professional development and digital portfolios, TIES 2017 workshops and seminars shed new light on innovative classroom technologies. Preconference Workshops


December 9-10, 2017


The #TIES17 50+ 3 or 6 hour Preconference Workshops provide an opportunity to learn and explore through an in-depth, hands-on experience. Workshops include introductory to advanced explorations of technology for educators along with workshops for administrators and members of the technology teams. Preconference Workshop titles, descriptions will be available online late September at TIES2017.sched.org.


NEW FOR 2017:

Preconference Workshop registrations include lunch and a keynote speaker. Each is also offering a workshop on the afternoon of their sessions in order to take a deeper dive into their topics.

Saturday: Jennifer Niedziclski will present on the topic of Mindfulness for Educators.

Sunday: Scott McLeod will speak with us about Student Agency.

Each individual’s first Preconference Workshop registration on Saturday and/or Sunday will include the box lunch, speaker, and an additional CEU. Access to these lunch keynotes will be limited to preconference workshop attendees only.

CTO Clinic

The second annual Minnesota CoSN Chapter CTO Clinic content is designed for technology directors, coordinators, and technicians who are interested in topics pertaining to data privacy, security, infrastructure, and the management of education technology for school districts. This is a great forum for those interested in learning more about the role of a Chief Technology Officer in the 21st century school district, forthcoming education technology trends, and networking with others in these roles.

Leadership Seminar


Monday, December 11



National education technology and leadership expert Scott Mcleod will plan and facilitate the #TIES17 Leadership Seminar. He will bring his experience and knowledge to you in an interactive format, balancing learning, sharing and doing. This seminar is best experienced as a leadership team for collaboration and implementation.

An Associate Professor of Educational Leadership at the University of Colorado Denver, Scott McLeod, J.D., Ph.D., is widely recognized as one of the nation’s leading experts on P-12 school technology leadership issues.

Breakout Sessions

With sessions each day by our keynote and featured speakers as well as local and regional education practitioners, the Breakout Sessions for #TIES17 will bring you best of the best. Breakout session titles and descriptions will be available online late October at TIES2017.sched.org in these session types:

  • Listen & Learn – 50-minute presentation, primarily one-way interaction between presenters and audience.
  • Explore & Create – 90 minute presentation, presentation of content emphasizes hands on exploration and creation of content by audience members.
  • Playground – The playground features 4 themes: coding and programming, playful learning, student tech teams, and makerspaces. Educators and student presenters showcase their work in this playful, interactive space.
  • Poster sessions – 50-minute exhibit-style presentation – presenters informally interact with conference participants about specific projects or practices, or demonstrate technology tools they have successfully implemented.
